Raw Search

Tired of all the enhanced searches? Kmeer and try a search raw and real, just as Google originally intended. If you just want to see 10 blue links and maybe a search ad or two try us.

Really this is just a fun project by some guy who likes to mess about on the internet.

More on Search

A lot of people don't know how Google Search works. Google sends out it's Googlebots to crawl the internet. They're just like your computer browser and they go, read each page, analyze the data, and store the page & data in their servers. Their automated systems compare all the web pages in their database and score them based off of a couple hundred things. Based on those scores and the words they're associated with, they build an index of those pages.

When you search on Google, they search through their index for the words you used to search with, and they return the pages that match those words and have the best scores. This is an oversimplification, I know, but it's generally how it all works.

Tracking & Privacy

It used to be that Google tried to store all the data connected to you as a person. So if Jeff was searching around the internet, they wanted to know what Jeff was looking for so they could show them all the ads related to all Jeff's searches. People think this is creepy and don't like being followed around. Especially when Jeff feels like they're targeting him specifically. Like they know him or something.

That all changed with anonymous tracking. Google (and many other companies) realized they don't need to know who you are to analyze your behavior. They can just see a few interactions and be able to group you with other users with similar behaviors. This includes Jeff. Google assigns him a number when he connects to Google. When Jeff searches on his phone and behaves in certain ways, he'll be grouped with other users that have similar behaviors. That group would likely also include Jeff when he searches on his laptop, and Jeff when he searches on his work computer.

You can see where I'm going with this: It's hard to track people across devices, especially when they aren't necessarily logged in with the same account on every one. It doesn't matter anyway, Google only cares that they're serving up ADs that Jeff will click on, not who Jeff is. They actually get better results this way.

Consider if Jeff behaves differently on different devices when he searches, the same ad-strategy won't work for all of them. If they group users anonymously by behavior, they don't have to worry about that.

Yes, Google is tracking you. They just don't care who you are. Facebook does the same, as does most online marketers. Even with tracking users on websites. We only look at the aggregate numbers. Mostly because looking at a single user isn't helpful.

So you can feel safe searching, browsing, and doing a web. Get creeped out by how accurate all the websites are without knowing who you are.
